Late-night texting meaning without reading intent

A fixed midnight-to-5-a.m. window, a confirmed timezone, and a percentage that cannot supply a motive.

1. Late-night texting measures the clock, not intent

Late-night texting shows when messages were sent, not why. Tellune counts timestamped messages from midnight up to, but not including, 5 a.m. in a confirmed timezone. It reports those messages as a share of every timestamped message in the import.

The percentage cannot establish romance, secrecy, priority, caring, or another motive. The same limit applies to reply intervals: our reply time guide explains what the clock can record without turning it into a personal score.

2. The timezone and denominator set the result

Tellune asks you to confirm the timezone used for time-of-day indicators. That choice determines which local hour each timestamp falls into. It does not change the elapsed intervals used for reply pace.

These rules make the calculation reproducible. They do not make it self-explanatory. A correct percentage still answers only how much of this timed sample landed in the fixed window.

3. Missing timestamps weaken a timing question

The indicator filters for messages that have timestamps. If fewer than 20 timestamped messages remain, Tellune returns the result as unavailable instead of estimating a share.

Import method matters here. Screenshot extraction is best effort and may lose timing detail, so it cannot promise the same timestamp coverage as a WhatsApp text export. Our screenshots-versus-exports guide explains that tradeoff before you choose an input.

4. The percentage cannot supply a motive

You can report which messages landed inside the defined window, how many came from each side, and what share they represent. Why either person sent them at that hour remains unresolved.

5. A compatible rematch shows change, not why

A later rematch can compare the late-night share when both reports use the same indicator version, both values are available, and the units match. The resulting delta shows that the percentage changed under compatible rules.
